Sophie's 1st Birthday

Sophie turned 1 in June last year, so I thought I would write a post on what we did for her birthday in case anyone was wondering or was looking for ideas.

Cake Smash
So to start off, we had received a gift voucher as a christening present (which was September 2013). We went and spoke to the photographer at the beginning of the year as we wanted to book something but we weren't quite sure what to do really. That was when she said that cake smashes are a really popular way to celebrate and capture a 1st birthday. We thought it was a great idea and it looked really fun - so we booked it for Friday 13th June which was the day of Sophie's birthday.

It soon came around, I still can't believe how fast that first year went! We were booked in for the shoot at 11am. We had picked up the cake the day before from someone local who I knew from school. It was perfect and we were really pleased with it! I had chosen a couple of outfits for her too.

The photoshoot went really well. Sophie wasn't walking then, only super-fast crawling haha! But we got some great pictures and we ended up buying the disc with the pictures on as it obviously works out cheaper and we couldn't choose just a few. I can't wait to show her the pictures when she's older!

We then went home, bathed her (as she was covered in cake!) and helped her open her presents! We spent the rest of the day at home as a family, which was nice.

Presents

Party

The following day was her party. We had close family and friends round and we had a buffet with the usual food; sandwiches, crisps, salad, breadsticks, dips etc. and of course her birthday cake! My sister made her an In The Night Garden cake as it was Sophie's favourite tv programme at the time.

That's it! We all had a lovely weekend and I can't believe I'll be planning her 2nd birthday soon!

The White Company Haul

I recently ordered some bits from The White Company which arrived today, so thought I would show you what I bought.

Firstly, I ordered 2 candles; Blanc and Rose. I absolutely love the fresh scent of Blanc and I always end up repurchasing it as it's my favourite. I also ordered Rose, as it sounded appealing and it certainly didn't disappoint. It smells lovely and it's now on my dressing table in our bedroom. You can find Blanc here and Rose here.

Favourite Toys

So I thought I would write a post about Sophie’s current favourite toys - most of these items were bought for Christmas 2014 but some of them we bought for her 1st Birthday in June last year.

My First Baby Annabell Doll
This was bought for Sophie's 1st Birthday - what little girl doesn't like playing with her dolls?! It is suitable from 1 year+. The one we bought was the version before this and the eyes open and close (but a bottle wasn't included). Sophie holds her and sometimes kisses her which is so cute! You can find this here

Baby Annabell Pram
We bought her this stroller and she loves pushing her doll around in it. She always wants to take it with us everywhere we go! You can find this here

Minnie Mouse Aquadoodle
I really liked the idea of this - the best part is you just fill the pen up with water to draw and it makes no mess at all. It also comes with a stamp which slots on the bottom of the pen so it stamps little hearts too! You can find it here

ELC Happyland
Sophie loves her Happyland sets.. It's played with every single day and is the first thing she gets out each morning once we've had breakfast. There are so many sets to choose from and we will probably get her more for her 2nd Birthday in June too. You can find the range here

Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Say Please Tea Set
This set was also bought for her Birthday last year but the past few months she has started to play with it a lot more and understands what it is. She pretends to drink out of the little cup and says 'aaah' after taking a sip! You can find this here

Mega Bloks
Sophie got these blocks for Christmas off her Grandparents. This is the first thing she looks for when we're round there. She brings the bag over to you to unzip so she can tip them all out and start building towers. You can find them here

Little Tikes Kitchen
She loves opening the fridge and putting food in there and pretending to drink from the cups. I think once she's a bit older she will get more out of it but she still enjoys playing with it and it will last for years to come! You can find the kitchen here

Play Food
You can get this 104 piece play food set for £9.99 and it includes all sorts. Sophie especially loves pretending to eat the lemon and strawberries! You can find this here

Asda Baby and Toddler Event Haul

I always do our weekly shop at Asda as I find them cheaper and I also like their George clothing range. Every 3 months or so they have a Baby & Toddler Event and this is the perfect time to stock up on everyday items.

So I thought I would do a haul on what I bought today.

Nappies
These were on offer 2 for £20 - instead of £14 a box so an £8 saving is pretty good in my opinion! We use Pampers as we have tried other brands in the past; Asda Little Angels and Tesco Loves Baby but we had so many leaks with these so we changed back to Pampers. We find they fit really well and absorb everything.

Toddler Bed

So, on Thursday night we put Sophie to bed as usual. However later on that night, she was still awake, messing around and shortly after we heard a big thud and we instantly knew she had managed to throw herself out of her cot. Something we didn't think would happen for a while yet since she's only 19 months!

Now we didn't think she would do it again in a hurry - considering it gave her a big shock, but we decided it wasn't worth the risk and this weekend we changed her cot to a toddler bed.

So on Thursday night (once Sophie had eventually gone to sleep) I went on the hunt for a bed guard. I chose the BabyDan one as it's white and matches her cot, it's also suitable from 18 months. You can find it here

It was her first night in her big girls bed last night and she slept really well! She loved getting in and out by herself. She needed reassurance though, so one of us had to stay with her until she fell asleep but then she slept through the night!

Hopefully this will continue.. Fingers crossed!

Spring Clothes For Toddlers Wishlist

So as it’ll soon be Spring, I thought now would be a good time to start getting Sophie’s Spring wardrobe ready. I love Next children’s clothing as they’re so lovely and excellent quality!

I've got my eye on a few bits from their Spring 2015 range. Sophie doesn't need many clothes at the moment, as I've got most of her wardrobe already – mainly bits that I've picked up in the Next sale (yes, I’m one of those crazy people who are stood outside Next, queuing at 5am) or items that I really liked and had to buy anyway.

Spring Home Wishlist

Since Next have brought out their Spring 2015 range, I have had my eye on some new homeware, some of which I have already purchased but I just want to freshen our home up a bit. I’ve been having a clear out recently of unwanted items and clothes – making space and also earning a bit of money to save too.

You can find the items below:

Duvet Set
I bought these duvet sets last week and they are so pretty! We have the white floral one on at the moment. The material is lovely and excellent quality. I think we will get the matching curtains too.

Family Word Block
This looks great in our living room. I love the quote written on it - "Family - where life begins and love never ends".

Jewellery Box
This will look beautiful on my dressing table and it's big enough to fit all of my jewellery - in; earrings, bracelets, necklaces, etc.

Flowers
Peonies are so beautiful - the colour matches the room perfectly.

Frame
This frame will look lovely on our bedroom wall and will match the decor of the room.

Candle
Soft Blanket is one of my favourite Yankee Candles. It smells so fresh - perfect for Spring/Summer!

Do you like the Spring 2015 range? Is there anything you've got your eye on? Let me know!
