5 Baby Products You Don't Really Need

When you're buying items for your baby - whether you're a first-time mum or if you already have children, it can be quite daunting knowing what items to buy and which of those are actually essential. I have put together a list of 5 items which I personally think you don't need for a baby.

1. Sit me up cosy - they look cute and help aid your child sit up, but I found we hardly used ours and it took up essential space. They're quite expensive for what they are too.

2. Cot bumpers - I agree they look cute in the nursery and they usually come in bedding sets but they are actually unnecessary and dangerous due to a suffocation risk when baby can roll or crawl around the cot.

3. Sit in baby walker - I personally wouldn't buy another one as again it took up space and was hardly used. I found Sophie got bored of hers easily and struggled to move on carpet (they work best on hard flooring). Although, if your child likes being on their feet, I would definitely recommend getting a Fisher Price Jumperoo instead.

4. Pre-walker shoes -  they're pretty pointless as most of the time they don't stay on! They can also restrict development of the child's feet so it's best to wait until your child is walking and get some fitted shoes.

5. Nappy bins - we didn't buy one of these ourselves but I can imagine they can get costly having to replace the cassettes for it. I think it's just as easy putting dirty nappies in the bin outside.

What baby products do you think aren't really essential?

  1. We used cot bumpers. Mainly because he kept hitting his head. This was only at the top. On the sides we had a breathable one and will have it for her too.
Never used walkers, nappy bins, sit ups and pre walker shoes.
Waste was the Mamas and papas seat too.

    1. Sophie had one too but as soon as I learned of the danger of them, I got rid of it. That's fair enough though :). I think a lot of baby things are such a waste of money but it's easy to get sucked in to buy them, when everything is so cute and small lol x

  2. We loved our nappy bin...we had the tommee tippee one and it was a god send, still use it now for the night time nappies! We didn't really have anything else. X

  3. The only one of these I had was a cot bumper because my mum bought me a lovely one but I was too scraed to let him sleep with it so I used it to dress the cot :) I've never in heard of sit me up cosy! Although I read recently it's probably better to just wait til they can sit of their own accord.

    1. They do look lovely in the cot, I agree! We had one for Sophie as it came with her cot bedding. I'd never realised how dangerous they are though. Yeah definitely, they all sit up eventually without having to pay over the odds for something you don't need! x

  4. I couldn't agree more with this! Also the idea of those nappie bins doesn't appeal to me, when you open it up I imagine it to absolutely stink!! But I've never used one to know! Like you I just make a quick trip the wheels bin! Xx
