This week my little four year old started a whole new adventure and has finished her first week of school. We spoke about starting school quite a lot with Sophie over the past few months to try and prepare her. However on Monday morning I still wasn’t sure how she would react to such a big change.
We had already looked around the new school and classroom and Sophie had met her teacher before and I was relieved that she already knew a few of the children starting too. Although they aren’t all in the same class, they still see each other and play together during the day. But in all honesty, I was dreading the first day. Just the thought of leaving her in a new place with lots of new people made me emotional. Although I really needn’t have worried, as Sophie has settled in to school so well and I think we’re all liking this new-found routine. I’m not sure I’ll be saying that when we add a newborn to the mix in a couple of months’ time though!
On Monday morning, Sophie was so excited getting ready and couldn’t wait to put her school uniform on. She was telling us to ‘hurry up, we don’t want to be late for school!’ and once we had said our goodbyes, she practically dragged me across the playground to the door of her classroom. She went inside no problem at all and sat down with the other children. The only tears we had at drop-off were mine! I genuinely didn’t know what to do with myself all day and literally counted down the hours until I could pick her up and find out she had been up to.
Her favourite things to do are playing in the sand pit and water table, as well as playing doctors with her friends and drawing pictures! I still can’t believe we have a school girl now, she looks more grown up than ever but we’re so proud of how well she’s adapted.
