A Short Break In Northumberland

Last weekend we headed back to Northumberland for a short break. You may remember we visited Northumberland last year too, which you can read about here and we all really enjoyed it, so we couldn’t wait to go back again for a few days.

We spent the Saturday travelling, which took around 3 hours, so we arrived in the evening around 6pm. Sophie watched Trolls in the car and then fell asleep and she thankfully slept most of the way. We didn’t really do much that evening, other than have something to eat and unpack a little. We decided last minute to travel on the Saturday evening, rather than Sunday morning as it meant we had another full day there.

On Sunday we went for a little drive to Craster, which is another little seaside town. We stopped off for a bit of lunch and Sophie had an ice cream, even though the weather was quite cold and windy. We then headed for the beach on the way home, as we had promised Sophie we would take her.

She is the happiest when she’s on a beach building sandcastles.

On Monday, my parents took Sophie out so Toby and I could have a look around the local shops. It was nice spending time together as a couple and I’m hoping we can get a little weekend away somewhere before the baby arrives. That evening we ordered a takeaway from the local Indian, which was lovely although I couldn’t finish mine and we watched Girl On The Train, which we had previously bought on DVD. It’s not my usual kind of film but we saw it at the cinema when it came out and we really enjoyed it.

On the Tuesday we went on a boat trip to the Farne Islands, just like we did last year. Although being 15 weeks pregnant – it didn’t help my sickness at all and I felt very seasick the entire time, which wasn’t fun! In the afternoon we took Sophie swimming, which admittedly I don’t do often enough as she loves it so much! We went back to the caravan for a bit and then walked to a local restaurant for fish and chips.

Our last day was Wednesday, where we spent most of the time packing everything up. Toby and I went for a short walk to the harbour to get some fresh donuts while Sophie stayed at the caravan playing football with her Grandad.

We had a lovely few days away and hopefully we get the chance to visit again next year, but with a baby in tow!

Sounds like you had a lovely few days. Northumberland was on my must visit list and we have so far managed only a fleeting visit on the way back from a wedding. We had some excellent Craster kipper stotties at The Ship Inn at Low Newton by the Sea which I highly recommend on your next visit!
