Bringing Your Newborn Home

When preparing for a new baby, there are so many factors you need to consider, including bringing your newborn home from the hospital. A baby’s first car journey home is probably the most important trip they will make and I know myself it’s a pretty nerve-racking experience. This is why I have put together a couple of tips to help bring your precious bundle home safely.

Here are some things you need to consider in preparation for your trip to and from hospital:

1. CHECK OVER THE CAR
Before travelling anywhere you must check your car tyres are safe (and legal). I don’t think people understand the importance of checking your car’s tyre pressure and tread before travelling. It’s not worth compromising on safety. In which case, if your tyres need replacing, I would definitely recommend using Point-S for affordable, high quality tyres.

Also, don’t forget to fill up the car with plenty of fuel to get you to and from the hospital!

2. PRACTICE FITTING THE CAR SEAT
Most, if not all hospitals in the UK won’t allow you to take your baby home without a car seat, so you must remember to take it to the hospital with you. It’s a good idea to practice fitting it before the baby arrives, so you know it’s installed correctly. Most modern family cars have Isofix connectors, so it may be worth investing in an Isofix base, as the car seat just clicks onto it, which is less hassle and definitely makes life a lot easier!

3. PLAN YOUR ROUTE
It may be an idea to plan which route you wish to take to the hospital and also how long it will take you to get there. You could check if there are any roads you may need to avoid, for example any scheduled roadworks in the area or roads that get busy in rush hour, as you don’t want to get stuck in traffic on the way to the hospital.

I hope you found these tips useful. How was your first car journey with your newborn?

Some great tips here! Nothing is scarier than having your little on in the car for the first time on their way home from hospital…. I kept checking on mine that first trip… Isofix bases are a god sent…. Just think prince William and George! X

I had both my babies at home so avoided this but great tips for those having a hospital birth! I know so many of my friends said their husbands drove at snails pace all the way home after taking their baby home! x

The route to our local hospital luckily is only 5 mins with the car.
So if we forgot something(which we did of course) there was no problem going back all the time.
