Sophie’s First Day At Nursery

Well today is the day my little girl started nursery. She had been for a couple of settling in sessions before Easter and really enjoyed it, so I knew it was the right decision. I must admit, I was feeling a little bit emotional when I was packing her bag last night and also when I dropped her off this morning. She seems so grown up – although really, she’s still only little.

I’m sure dropping her off will get easier, although it was hard leaving her this morning, as she didn’t want me to go. (I actually phoned up an hour later to make sure she had settled and they said she was fine now, which was a relief!). Sophie starting nursery feels like a pretty big milestone, which is why I wanted to document it here. We’re both used to spending time apart from each other, as she stays at her grandparents’ quite often (which does us both good!). Although, I was nervous at the thought of leaving her with someone I don’t know particularly well.

If you haven’t read my previous post about the reasons why I was thinking of putting Sophie into nursery, I will explain a little. Sophie turns three in just a couple of months and I think she will really benefit from being around other children and also being away from me for a while. Shortly after I wrote that post, we went to visit a local nursery to have a look around and once we had seen the rooms Sophie would be in and the outdoor area, I knew that this was the right nursery for her. She seemed very happy and ran around with the other children outside too.
We decided to put her in for two full days a week, which gives me enough time to catch up with housework, blogging and whatever else that needs doing! I can’t wait to pick her up later to find out what she’s been up to today!

When did your children start nursery and do they enjoy going?

we started with three half days a week of preschool at 3, and went to 5 half days at 4. She loves it and the 3 hours a day of peace and quiet are a nice break
