I’ve wanted to give our Ikea play kitchen a little makeover for so long now, but we’ve just never got round to it (until recently anyway!). I’d decided it was looking a little tired, as it is four years old or so now. So we bought some furniture paint and spray paint and made a start on our new project – and I’m so pleased with how it turned out!

And here’s how it looks after…
I had been searching Pinterest for inspiration for months now! I eventually decided on a neutral colour scheme, as I wanted it to fit in well with the rest of our decor in our home. We chose white for the majority of the kitchen, grey for the worktop and silver accessories.
We didn’t take the kitchen apart completely, however I took all of the doors, handles and hinges off. We then used a primer (which we already had in the garage) and gave all of the wooden areas one coat and left to dry.
Then we gave the wooden areas a coat of paint (it needed two coats, so we applied another a day or two later once we had allowed it plenty of time to dry). We then gave the worktop a coat of the grey paint (again it needed two coats, but we only needed one tin of the tester pot we had purchased). Then all that was left to do was to sand the handles and accessories where needed and spray them.
I think the metro tile splashback finishes it off perfectly and it was pretty easy to do. My partner simply cut a piece of plyboard to fit on the back of the kitchen and stuck the tiles on, then finished it with some white silicone around the edges to neaten it up a little. It was that simple!
I had looked everywhere for a nice tea towel, but I couldn’t find what I was looking for anywhere! So instead I ordered a pack of aden + anais muslin cloths and used the dalmatian patterned one. I think it’s the perfect finishing touch!
These are the products we used, which we purchased from our local B&Q, however I’m sure you can find similar paints elsewhere. We used a mini paint roller for the majority of the painting and a brush for certain areas and touching up. I have linked everything mentioned in this post below.
