Our Family Christmas Traditions

We're finally in December, so I wanted to share a few of our family Christmas traditions with you. This time of year is so magical and I think these are all lovely ideas, which are perfect for creating lovely Christmas memories with your family each and every year.

1. CHRISTMAS BOOK ADVENT CALENDAR

Along with the standard chocolate advent calendar which we get every year, this year I also wanted to start a Book Advent calendar. This means Sophie now has a new book to open every day in the run up to Christmas. You can see which books we have included in our Book Advent Calendar here.

 2. CHRISTMAS EVE BASKET

I have put together a Christmas Eve Basket for the past two years, with this one being our third. I love buying all of the little bits for it and seeing it come together. Sophie loves to see what goodies I have included on the morning of Christmas Eve and we will be continuing this tradition every year, for years to come! You can see what's in this year's Christmas Eve Basket here.

3. GINGERBREAD HOUSE

On Christmas Eve last year, we built a gingerbread house while watching a Christmas film and it was a perfect family activity and we can't wait to do it again this year. You can see more photos from last Christmas here.

We also take our three year old somewhere local to Santa's Grotto, so she can meet Santa and tell him what she wants for Christmas, along with leaving a mince pie, a glass of milk and a carrot - for Santa and his reindeer. I would love to start Elf On The Shelf next year, but in the meantime I have put together 30+ Elf On The Shelf ideas if you're looking for some inspiration!

What are your family Christmas traditions? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. Lovely post. It is always fun to find out what people do. We have a similar thing on Christmas eve but we deliver neighbour gifts that day too :)

  2. That's lovely. We normally bake Christmas biscuits and we did St Nikolaus a few days ago.
