Top Toys For One Year Olds

I’ve compiled a list of top toys for one year old’s, which also happen to be Sophie’s favourites when she was around that age. If you’re looking for toys for your child’s birthday or a friends’ baby etc. but you’re stuck for ideas, hopefully this post will give you a few ideas!

I used to love buying new toys for Sophie – in fact I still do. There’s something fascinating about watching children explore and discover something new. All of the toys pictured above are bright and colourful, which may not be to everyone’s taste – but babies love bright colours! It stimulates their senses too, which is great when they’re learning and developing. Although buying toys can get quite expensive – which is why I think it’s a good idea to buy something which will last longer than a few months. We still have some of the toys above and they are still played with regularly – even though Sophie is now nearly three years old.

Here are our top toys…

Playskool Elefun Ball Popper

I think this is such a fun toy, although a little noisy. Air pushes balls out of the elephant’s trunk and it plays upbeat music too. We keep this at Sophie’s grandparents’ house and she often gets it out to play with.

Fisher Price Cookie Shape Surprise
We bought this for Sophie’s first birthday and she used to love opening the lid and putting the shapes inside. Now that she’s older, she can use the shape sorter and put the correct shape in each gap. It’s great for learning colours, numbers and shapes and it also sings a couple of songs too.

LeapFrog My Pal Scout
Although we haven’t owned one of these ourselves, I’ve read it’s a very good educational toy. My Pal Scout is an interactive soft toy, which introduces words, counting and feelings. He can also be personalised to learn your child’s name.

VTech Baby First Steps Baby Walker
This has to be one of our best purchases! Sophie used to sit and play with this from around 9 months old, as you can easily detach the learning centre which has various interactive parts – including shapes, animals, colours and the toy phone. We also used this baby walker to build her confidence and encourage her to take her first steps when she around 15 months old.

VTech Baby Spin and Discover Ocean Fun
Another one of Sophie’s favourites when she was younger, she used to love pushing the top and watching the animals, lights and sounds.

Early Learning Centre Sensory Stacking Rings

We bought this for Sophie’s first Christmas, when she was 6 months old and it’s still occasionally played with now. Each stacking ring is a different colour and also has a different texture which is great for babies’ to explore.

What are your favourite toys for a one year old?

This is a great list. At that age Eva loved stacking toys. She also lobed her rocking horse from mamas and papas. The leapfrog toy looks good. X

A great list of toys. It's so weird that I will have to buy toys like that sometime next year!

Great list. Little Miss H had a few of these, My Pal Scout, the VTech walker and the stacking rings. And I am so glad that we kept them as I know that Little Mister H will love playing with them too. Little Miss H also loves (and pretty much, still plays with it daily) the Leap Frog Shapes and sort picnic basket. And tea sets… she can't get enough of tea sets. Great post. Hugs Lucy xxxx
