Life Lately #4 | Maternity Leave, Mental Health & Moving House

This post is pretty long overdue, as it’s one I’ve been meaning to write it for quite some time! However you know how it goes sometimes, life is just super busy at the moment and I’ve got quite a few things to update you on.

So I’ll start off with the first thing, which is that I decided to go back to work at the beginning of February. It’s not really a decision I made lightly and I felt guilty, knowing I was a stay-at-home Mum to Sophie pretty much until she started school. However, it was decided beforehand I wouldn’t take the full nine months to a year, so we could look into mortgages etc. sooner. I only work part-time too, so I still spend a lot of time with the girls anyway – so it’s worked out really well and I think the break does help me too. The extra money coming in is also super useful!

Secondly, since having Amelia back in October last year, I’ve had a few appointments with my consultant at the hospital, my last being in February. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this on the blog, but one of the things we were worried about having a second baby, was my Postnatal Depression returning. Thankfully it hasn’t (so far, so good I suppose). However after the birth, it appears I have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which I believe is quite common after going through a traumatic birth. I’m currently attending therapy each week, so hopefully that will help me come to terms with it and deal with it properly. I will be writing a separate post on it soon, as I think it’s something that needs to be spoken about.

Now onto a positive note and the good news! I did mention it on Instagram a month or so ago, but we’ve bought our very first house! It’s a new-build, currently scheduled for completion at the end of November – however it could be before, it could be slightly after. I’m just hoping we’re moved in just in time for Christmas. It is the perfect home to raise our family in. It’s got an open-plan kitchen/diner, a garage and four bedrooms – so the girls’ can have a playroom (and we get our living room back!). I’m documenting the process on a separate Instagram account @emmalamberthome, if you want to follow along on this journey with us. We’ve handed our notice in for our rented house and we’re moving in temporarily with Toby’s parents in April, so we can save up. I’m so excited for what’s to come and to get back into the swing of things with blogging too!

Thanks for reading if you made it this far! x

I'm so glad you're getting any help you need with your PTSD, I didn't go to any classes although advised and sometimes I wish I did, because I feel like it's changed me and it's so hard to explain that to either someone at work or my loved ones, they just don't understand and I feel I'd of learned great tools had I gone to a group on how to deal with it and how to better explain my feelings etc to others when I'm struggling.

YAY on the new house! So exciting! Mortgages are so expensive in London that I can't see James and I getting one any time soon but it's totally on the cards…. one day 😛

Sounds like a lot of things happening! I look forward to reading a future post about traumatic birth, I think it is something that isn't talked about enough. Thanks for sharing!

So exciting. Your new House looks gorgeous from what I’ve seen on IG. PTSD is a pain in the rear, I suffered with it after P for a good year but thankfully it’s eased a lot now.
